These terms apply to anyone reading or using TechStyle Computers. They are written in plain language because the site is about making technology less confusing, and legal pages should not be the exception. Reading or using the guides here means you agree to them.

Guides are general information

Our articles explain how computers, phones, software, web services and home technology generally work. They are not a substitute for advice from a qualified technician, lawyer, accountant or financial professional who knows your situation. Menus, prices, plans and product features change, sometimes soon after a guide is published, so always check the current details with the maker or provider before you act.

Your devices, your data, your decision

Following instructions on a computer or phone always carries some risk. Before changing settings, installing software, opening a case or upgrading parts:

• back up anything you cannot afford to lose;
• check that the steps match your exact model and system version;
• stop and seek help if something looks different from what the guide describes.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, damaged equipment, service charges or other losses that arise from using information on this site. Where the law does not allow a liability to be excluded, these terms leave it untouched.

Services, products and contributed articles

Some articles mention companies, products or services, and some are prepared with or for outside contributors. Naming a company is not the same as vouching for it. Compare options, read the provider's own terms and make sure any service, including television and streaming services, is properly licensed where you live before you sign up or pay.

Using our content

The text, layout and illustrations on TechStyle Computers are protected by copyright. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote a short passage with a link back. Please ask us in writing before copying complete guides, reposting them on another site or feeding them into automated systems.

Accuracy and corrections

We test steps before publishing and correct mistakes when they are pointed out, but we cannot promise that every page is complete or current at all times. If you find an error, the contact page explains how to report it.
